Photography Competition 2010



Theme: The theme for the competition will be "Muintir Bháire: A Celebration of People and Place”

Who may participate? This competition is open to all AMATEUR PHOTOGRAPHERS. Residents of Muintir Bhaire and regular and one-off visitors are encouraged to participate also. You do not have to be an experienced photographer to enter. All you need is a camera, a bit of a creative flare and the desire to win the top prize of €250!

Entrance Fee: To subsidise prizes and administration costs necessary to run the competition efficiently, a contribution in the form of an entry fee of €5 is required per image.

Judging:
The photographs will be judged by an independent panel of judges. The decision of the judges is final.

The prints will be judged on the following criteria:

  1. Originality of the picture idea

  2. Photo content and treatment of the subject matter

  3. Composition and presentation

  4. How well it reflects the theme of the competition. The picture should aim to reflect/highlight the diversity of everyday life in Muintir Bháire.

Rules:

The competition is open to amateur photographers only and applicants can submit a maximum of 4 entries.

Entries must be received by Tuesday, 3rd August 2010. No entry will be accepted after this date.

The pictures must have been taken on the Sheeps Head Peninsula by the person entering the competition during the period from 29th May 2010 to 2nd August 2010 (inclusive).

Each picture should be accompanied by/ have a label on the back with:

* the name of the photographer, address and contact number
* the photograph title
* name of the picture and date it was taken
* where it was shot on Sheep’s Head

If you take pictures of children (under the age of 18) you must have written permission from their parents. This written permission must then be sent in with the photographs.

All entries must be original work and must not have been previously published. The entrants must be the sole owner of copyright in all photos entered and must have obtained permission of any people featured in the entries.

Each photographic image entry will include a non-refundable fee of €5.00, payable by Cash, Cheque or Money Order to Muintir Bhaire Community Council Ltd- (Registered Charity # CHY6865) as stated on the entry form. Payment can only be accepted in Euros. Each entry will be acknowledged with a receipt provided an enclosed stamped self addressed envelope with an Irish Postage Stamp on it or your email address are given for quick receipt.

Participants must submit their own original A4 or 210mmx297mm photographic print on photo quality paper in full colour, unmounted and unframed, attached by a paper clip to the original entry form. No email entries accepted.

Each entry MUST include a copy of the photograph in JPEG High resolution format on DVD or CD that can be opened on any PC or in the case of film, the negative strip. Images cannot be accepted by email.

Each print must be accompanied by an official entry form (as appended). On the entry form, participants must also certify that they are author of the original photographic print attached and that the print has not been published previously elsewhere, that all releases and authorizations were duly obtained.

The submission must not be defamatory, offensive or obscene or violate or infringe on the trademark, copyright, publicity, privacy or other rights of any third party.

The competition entries will be exhibited in Kilcrohane Community Hall on a date to be announced and copies of the photographs will be sold to raise funds for Muintir Bháire Community Council Ltd. In addition the Community Council will retain the option of using the photographs in future publications. Therefore by entering the Competition, and as a condition of  eligibility, the participant agrees to grant to Muintir Bhaire Community Council permission to publish, promote, reproduce, distribute and publicly display the photographs in any and all media as Muintir Bháire Community Council sees fit, to identify participant as the photographer and to authorize others to do any of the above without any obligation to compensate participant. 

If a photograph contains a readily identifiable person as a subject, as a consideration to our residents and visitors, especially in the case of minors, please ask permission to use their image(s) and have them or their parent or guardian sign the waiver on the entry form.

No entries can be returned. The organisers accept no responsibility for entries lost, damaged or delayed in the post.

By entering the competition, the entrant verifies that he/she has read the "Rules of Entry" and agrees to abide by them.
